The akim of East Kazakhstan Region, Daniyal Akhmetov, made this statement during a briefing at the Regional Communications Service, where he reported on the interim results of implementing the National Plan “100 Concrete Steps” in his region. The Kazakh-Zerno correspondent also attended the briefing. “The region produces 12% of the total meat output in the country. At the same time, only 39% of the raw material is processed. To reverse the situation in the sector, work is being carried out to increase the number of beef cattle, improve breeds, strengthen the feed base by bringing unused land into circulation, ensure veterinary safety, and build large feedlots,” he said. To launch these growth drivers, the region is implementing the following projects: “In the Urzhar district, a poultry farm with an annual capacity of 30 thousand tons of poultry meat is under construction, with commissioning scheduled for 2018. In the Ayagoz district, Eurasia Agro Holding will begin construction of a slaughterhouse with an annual capacity of 11.5 thousand tons of meat and a feedlot for 50 thousand sheep and 1,000 head of cattle, with commissioning planned for 2017. In the Kokpekti district, a meat-processing plant and a feedlot for 3 thousand head of cattle will be built. The facility, being constructed by Elimai Kokpekti, will have a design capacity of up to 6 thousand tons of beef per year and a project cost of 810 million tenge. The complex is expected to be commissioned this year,” the akim of the region said. He also noted that the loan agreement with Eurasia Agro Holding was signed in February of this year. The company has already been allocated the required land plot, as well as 600 thousand hectares of distant pastures equipped with water infrastructure and all necessary facilities.
